Gwen Ramsay was born in 1980 in Toronto Canada.
Gwen lives and works in London.
Her artistic practice encompasses painting and drawing of portraits and landscapes quietly imbued with emotional intensity and a stillness reminiscent of statues as an exploration of the meaning and properties of painting. She creates contrasting textures through juxtapositions of drawing and oil painting techniques; paint is applied with a contemporary economy of means and muted palette.
Ramsay graduated with an MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design in 2007. She has exhibited widely, with exhibitions in London, Bristol and Toronto. Her work has been featured in The Guardian, and is held in public and private collections. Recent group exhibitions include ‘Jelly & Co.’ at The Geddes Gallery and ‘Tangled in the Brambles’ at The C4RD.
